Freshman Programs: Freshman Transition
The PTA is proud to financially support the innovative and wide-ranging programs developed by Freshman Transition. The 6th period leadership students stage an amazing array of activities during the year to help our newest Bears succeed during their first year at M-A.
"A program designed to provide freshmen with the vital connection to their new school,
using the power of peers helping peers to insure academic and social success
in a safe and caring community"
Freshmen...
- will experience increased tolerance and acceptance of diversity
- are taught about services, activities, rules and student expectations
- are provided with positive peer role models
- gain awareness of responsible behavior around social issues
- will have the opportunity to meet and become friends with fellow 9th graders and upper-classmen
A few of the specific programs that have been developed by various Freshman Transition committees include:
- Freshman Family Welcome Potluck - Where 9th graders and their families come to eat and interact with one another.
- Freshman Boards - Where freshmen can find information on upcoming events and other useful school dates
- Challenge Day, sponsored by the PTA - 9th grade team building event held each fall. More information is available at www.challengeday.org. We need over 100 parent volunteers for this powerful event. Please email challengeday@mabearspta.org to learn more about volunteering.
